Parlez-vous français?

Mon Dec 28, 2009, 11:38 AM
It was a chilly February afternoon when Javier (the mad doctor behind Infestacion: The Mythology) said…

“What if we attend Angouleme’s Comic Festival next year? I mean, if others made it, then why not us.”

With that the adventure began, where we had nothing to lose but everything to gain. It would be hard to say that we never had our doubts, or that everything came out in our favor (lately yes, but after much hard work). But on November the 11th, it was official… 656 Comics was selected to participate at the 37 Festival International de la Bande Dessinee in the city of Angouleme, France. It’s like SDCC but in France!

Unfortunately, the mad doctor will have to make this trek alone but he will go and represent the 656 Comics name and take our latest work with him. The rest of the 656 crew are still looking for sponsorship. We do have a few people interested but they have not pulled through, yet. Where’s the tip jar when we need one? Heh… Anyway.

For everyone who has supported us and those who have followed us, this is a collective triumph that definitely we would not have achieved without you. Thanks!

For more info on the festival and where the 656 Comics table will be, check the following [link]

Also, we're happy to inform you that we're releasing a trade paper back edition of Infestación: The Mythology. It's 336 pages, new cover and it going for $20 bucks at lulu.com. The difference between the trade and the hardcover is that we took out some pages (art of infestación and interviews) to make the book more accessible and to avoid making the buyers of the hardcover feel cheated with the new low price.

If you're interested in purchasing a copy, please go to our storefront at lulu.com [link]
The site is still a work in progress...

Here are some quotes we’ve collected from artists, writers and reviewers in the industry. Here’s what they had to say about Infestación: The Mythology.

"Filled with more guts and heartbreak than a butcher-shop in a vegan neighborhood. This is a prime example of a lot of different creators having a blast and making some truly horrific comics that make me smile. Its worth it for the energy alone."

- Jimmy Palmiotti

"Knowing the gentleman from 656 Comics and where they are from (Ciudad Juárez), I see an authenticity in their work that is hard to come by. Their visual style is unique and compelling and the story is filled with enough local references and edge to really separate it from other titles in the undead genre. Give Infestación a read, you won't be sorry."

- Loren Kriess, lorenkriess.com

"What makes Infestación: The Mythology scary, and thereby an intriguing read, that it is a work of regional horror fiction about the walking dead reveals sometimes unpleasant global truths about the walking living."

- Dr. James Bucky Carter Ph.D., English Education at the University of Texas at El Paso, Graphic Novel Reporter.com

"There are so many zombie books out there now; it's nice to see a fresh voice come out of a tired genre. Infestación was the most fun that I’ve had with a zombie book in a long time. The art (especially in the left behind story) was great, filled with a lot of emotion"

- Ben Glibert, Semantink Publishing

ABOUT THE GRAPHIC NOVEL:

Infestación: The Mythology is a ground breaking graphic novel set on the border between Mexico (Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua) and the United States (El Paso, Texas), where a zombie plague that has taken over both cities and all they have to survive is each other. A border that has now become one between life and death, or un-death.

Infestación: The Mythology is divided in three sections. The first part, “Outbreak”, pertains to the first days of the zombie invasion in Ciudad Juárez, every day people trying to fight against an unknown enemy. Part two, “Survival”, the undead onslaught makes its way across the border into El Paso, Texas, or like the disgruntled youth call it, Hell’s Pass. Only the most arrogant, egotistical, conceited, belligerent and self indulgent ‘heroes’ can survive Hell’s Pass. The final part, “Deliverance”, is set in Juárez a few years after the chaos. The remaining populaces have organized a new society around their messiah, a man called Dante, who disappeared and left this new found community to fend for themselves. The United Nations, grouped together with the cells, start to form an evacuation plan known as “The Exodus”, to get the remaining survivors out of Juárez. Things are going as planned until their savior returns.
